oh my god. it is horrible "starting from scratch." i mean, i am more calm now than i was before, but i feel reeeeally reeeeeeeally bad for my parents buying me "getting started" stuff. they wanted to go shopping and get some stuff for me before they left, and we probably spent... $150 to $200 on random things. it's a whole crapload of $3 and $4 items, mostly. and i only picked up things on sale. except at wal-mart (because i kind of needed some things like ziplock containers and a pot -- the room came with a frying pan but no pots..?). anyhows, the most stupid little things add up.
my parents asked me if i wanted to buy bread and i said no because i realized i didn't (and still don't, really) have anything to put on it (ie jam or pb or even margarine...). it frustrated me that i didn't even have basics like milk or margarine or cereal. i only had lily's asian crackers (you know what i'm talking about) and like... meal replacement things. and crackers. my mom brought lots of crackers, for some reason.
my point is that after spending all that money, i still don't have a great variety of food. i bought (among other basic things, of course) marg, canola oil, a pot (these were givens), long johns (one pair), salad mix, carrots, cheese, eggs. that's about as exciting as it gets. urrrgh. oh i also got alphaghetti (sp?).
so aside from my grocery shopping, we also visited some relatives (my cousin's husband's uncle and aunt) and went to the mall. i slept a lot in the car (because i didn't sleep at night since i stayed up packing... and we left the house at 5:30am) so i missed a lot of the scenery. every time i close my eyes, i feel like i'm drifting off... hahaha.
anyhow, i hope you guys are all doing well and taking care of yourselves (oh yeah, that reminds me, there was apparently some turbulance during our trip but i totally slept through it... and as soon as we got off the plane, i fell asleep on a bench while waiting for our luggage; i felt like a hobo. but yeah...)! thanks so much for your gifts. i hope to hear from you all soon. (i haven't had a chance to read all the scrapbook stuff yet... i'm going to try to maximize my time with my family/dan while they're here since i will have the rest of my stay mostly alone...
